This week brought two pieces of hopeful news for the life-affirming movement and women’s health. As policies shift at both the federal and state levels, our National Medical Director, Dr. Karysse Hutson, weighs in on what these updates mean for the health of women and the protection of the preborn.

Trump Revokes Abortion Guidance

This week, the Trump administration announced it would revoke abortion guidance that was issued to our nation’s hospitals in 2022. This guidance, which was created in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, was an effort by the former administration to maintain abortion procedures in states with near or total bans. This revocation has ignited a response from abortion doctors with fears that women may face death if not administered emergency abortions in their state.

Source: WLRN

But as Dr. Hutson explains, “Elective abortion is never required to save a mother’s life. In the rare case that a mother’s life is in danger related to her pregnancy, a medical separation of the baby from the mother will occur. This separation procedure is allowed and carried out in every state, regardless of abortion restriction laws.”

In short, no woman will be left to die because of this policy change.

Dr. Hutson Responds to New Policies

In a recent statement, Dr. Hutson said:

“The Trump administration announced on Tuesday that it will be revoking a policy put in place by the Biden administration that forced all hospitals to perform abortions for certain conditions. Previously, this was allowing abortions to be performed for many reasons, even in states that have outlawed abortion.

Medically, we know that abortion harms women and leads to a significantly increased risk of breast cancer, mental health disease, future preterm birth, and permanent bodily damage.

We applaud the current administration for protecting women’s health and supporting life at all stages. As a reminder, all doctors in every state and country in the world are allowed to perform a medical separation of a pregnancy in the womb from the mother if the mother’s physical life is in danger.”

California’s Funding Cut to Planned Parenthood

This week, California Governor Gavin Newsom proposed cutting a portion of state funding allocated to Planned Parenthood in his updated 2025 budget plan. The proposal comes as the state faces a substantial budget deficit and seeks to reduce overall spending.

Source: KTVU

Planned Parenthood claims it would reduce its annual California budget by one-third. Such a significant cut would undoubtedly make a marked difference in a state that proudly stands as one of the nation’s most prominent abortion providers.

Dr. Karysse Hutson Responds to California’s Funding Cut to Planned Parenthood

Dr. Karysse Hutson responds to this budget cut and what it could mean for abortion access in California:

“This week, California’s governor has proposed a funding cut to Planned Parenthood in California, which will help reduce the number of abortions performed and thus increase the health of women in the state as well as those in the womb.

California doesn’t report abortion procedures to the CDC as required by other states, but the number is thought to be far above the national average.”

Beyond Politics, We’re Here to Empower Women with Real Healthcare

These recent updates remind us that policy can be a powerful tool to protect both women and the preborn. Still, regardless of the politics, we stand firm in our mission to provide women with genuine, dignified healthcare. With a National Medical Director like Dr. Hutson and many other life-affirming doctors and OB-GYNs across the country, we’re working every day to make this mission a reality.

At Save the Storks, we remain committed to offering women compassionate care, medically sound information, and the resources they need to choose life.

Join us in standing with women and babies by supporting Save the Storks. Your gift helps provide real healthcare, resources, and hope to moms choosing life.

When the call came into the PRC [Pregnancy Resource Center] of Southwest, Oklahoma, the voice on the other end was soft and trembling. A mother and father were navigating a difficult decision, and the mother was on the line:

“It’s me, Jane. I need help. I think I’m pregnant again.”

Jane had given birth just a few months earlier, and she and the baby’s father, Ed, were participating in the clinic’s Empowered Parenting classes. Over time, the clinic had been building a meaningful relationship with them. Hearing the uncertainty in her voice, they silently prayed and gently asked how she was feeling about the possibility of another pregnancy.

There was a long pause. Then she whispered, “I don’t think I can do it.”

The words came pouring out. Jane felt overwhelmed. They asked if she could come into the clinic, and without hesitation, she agreed.

The Weight of Motherhood

When Jane arrived, she quietly broke down. Being a first-time mother was already hard, but compounded with her newborn’s health challenges, financial struggles, and the added pressure of her boyfriend’s existing responsibilities, it all felt like too much.

“It’s just not going to be okay,” she said through tears.

The staff members sat with her, listened, and gently helped her begin to untangle her emotions. “Jane, it won’t always be this hard,” they told her. “You’re tired, overwhelmed, and scared. But you are doing an amazing job. You are a strong woman, and you are not alone.”

She had convinced herself that the pregnancy was her fault—and that abortion was the only way to “fix the mess.”

Meanwhile, a Father’s Heart Was Stirring

What Jane didn’t know at the time was that the fatherhood coach had also connected with Ed. He was in shock, too. He wasn’t sure how they would manage, but he was sure about one thing: He wanted the baby.

Ed admitted his fears, but he also expressed hope. The coach encouraged him to be honest with Jane, to share his heart, and to support her not just as a partner—but as a father.

A Moment of Silence at the Ultrasound

The day of the ultrasound came. Ed had to step out to take a phone call and never returned to the room. Jane sat silently during the scan, offering no questions. Afterward, the nurse gently asked what her next steps would be.

Jane looked down and said, “I’m going to find the abortion pill.”

She urged her to slow down. “You don’t have to decide today. You have time. You don’t have to make this decision from a place of fear.”

Jane and Ed left the clinic that day. The staff and volunteers gathered to pray for clarity, for peace, for strength, and for the life of this unborn child.

Silence… Then a Spark of Hope

For days, the clinic’s calls to Jane went unanswered. Still, they prayed—believing that something was stirring behind the silence. Almost a week later, the fatherhood coach called Ed again. This time, he answered.

“She’s still pregnant,” he said. It was Ed’s birthday, and he confessed it had been one of the hardest weeks of his life. Without skipping a beat, the coaches picked up a birthday cake and a card. They wanted Ed to know: You matter. You’re worth celebrating.

It’s important to give a father the recognition and support he needs when facing a difficult situation. Men are just as impacted by unplanned pregnancies.

A Second Chance

The very next day, Jane called: “Can I come in for another ultrasound?”

The clinic welcomed her and Ed back that same day. And that’s when they shared the news: They had changed their minds. They were keeping the baby.

The entire clinic rejoiced. One life saved—and a family choosing hope. They can’t wait to continue walking with Jane and Ed through the clinic’s Empowered Parenting program, supporting them every step of the way on their parenting journey.

Their story is not just one of hardship, but of resilience, love, and the quiet courage of a father who showed up when it mattered most.

Every life matters. Every parent matters. And sometimes, it’s the quietest voices—like Ed’s—that speak the loudest.

There’s been a big movement this week in the effort to defund abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.

The House just passed H.R. 1—the One Big Beautiful Bill Act—by the narrowest margin of 215-214. This powerful reconciliation bill includes provisions that would:

  • Phase out Medicaid funding for abortion providers like Planned Parenthood over the next 10 years
  • Eliminate taxpayer subsidies for insurance plans that cover elective abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother

And in California, Governor Newsom has proposed a $500 million cut to Planned Parenthood, slashing a third of its total state funding.

Defunding Planned Parenthood isn’t the end goal. It’s the beginning.

If Planned Parenthood loses funding, many are asking: Who will meet the needs of women, babies, and families in its place? It’s important to note that, according to the Lozier Institute, abortion made up 97.1% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy resolution services in 2022. Still, a gap will remain to be filled. For instance, in May of this year, Planned Parenthood announced the closure of eight centers across Iowa and Minnesota due to the federal funding cuts. At Save the Storks, we are equipping life-affirming clinics to fill this gap with real, compassionate care.

An Opportunity for a Shift in Maternal Healthcare

Back in April, when the potential to defund Planned Parenthood was first introduced, our COO, Annie Tang Humphrey, shared a clear vision:

“At Save the Storks, we know abortion is not healthcare. True healthcare supports the whole woman, emotionally, physically, financially, and spiritually. Across the country, we are witnessing the rise of maternal healthcare deserts, where women lack access to prenatal care, housing, childcare, mental health resources, and job support. As Chief Operating Officer, I oversee four key strategic programs, focusing on innovation that is ensuring hearts and minds are changed, and LIVES ARE SAVED! These are the very pillars of care that empower women to choose life and thrive in motherhood.” – Annie Tang Humphrey

Annie Tang Humphrey, COO of Save the Storks

Yes, we celebrate this shift, but even more, we rally. Because true maternal healthcare is more than the absence of abortion, it’s the presence of support.

At Save the Storks, we are already building that future; one Mobile Medical Clinic, one trained nurse, and one woman’s story at a time. Here’s how:

Our Four Areas of Impact

National Partner Program

We partner with Pregnancy Resource Centers to help them grow and continue thriving as high-quality women’s healthcare providers. By expanding services and raising care standards, our partners become trusted, compassionate, and community-rooted.

Mobile Medical Clinics

Our mobile clinics bring free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and STI testing directly to women, wherever they are. They remove access barriers and ensure women receive compassionate, high-quality care.

Community Partners

We equip churches to be the empowerment women need, offering real support and compassion to moms in their communities.

Digital Platform

Through 24/7 resources like For Every Woman and Infinite Worth, we meet women in their most vulnerable moments with life-affirming, immediate support; anytime, anywhere.

Humphrey adds, “Let’s advocate for life-affirming care, not just the absence of abortion, but the presence of support. Let’s call this what it is: an opportunity to build a culture where moms and babies can thrive. Together, we can bridge the gap in maternal healthcare and shift the narrative around what real support looks like for women.”

Help Us Bring Her Life-Affirming Maternal Care

We are bridging the gap in women’s healthcare with compassion, excellence, and hope. But we can’t do it without your help. Would you consider giving today so that we can continue meeting women right where they are, especially as abortion providers lose funding?

The work of serving women doesn’t stop when Planned Parenthood is defunded. It’s only the beginning, and we must be ready. Let’s build a reality where we can put her future first together.

Would You Pray with Us?

Let’s stay in prayer together as this bill moves to the Senate. We are praying that hearts will be softened, negotiations will go smoothly, and taxpayer funding for abortion providers will finally come to an end so that women can receive the true maternal healthcare and support they deserve.

You’ve probably heard the old saying: “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” But history tells a different story. Words have started wars, silenced entire movements, and sparked revolutions. Language holds power, the power to shape perception, sway public opinion, and either reveal the truth or bury it.

We’re looking at how The New York Times uses words like “fetus” or “unborn” and how those choices shape the way we see life in the womb.

Why Words Matter: Fetus Vs. Unborn

In the battle for life, pro-abortion advocates have learned to weaponize words to fit their agenda. A term like “clump of cells” becomes more than just three harmless words; it becomes a way to deny the humanity and personhood of a preborn baby in the womb. “Fetus,” while technically a medical term, is often used to create emotional distance, a way to separate those who have been born from those still growing inside the womb.

Language shapes emotion.

“Fetus” sounds clinical, detached.

The phrase “unborn baby” evokes empathy, connection, and grief.

Case Studies from the Media

Let’s take a closer look at how some major news outlets, like The New York Times, carefully choose their words when reporting on life in the womb.

The New York Times – Will My Unborn Child Be a Citizen?

In January 2025, The New York Times published a piece titled, “A New Fear for Undocumented Women: Will My Unborn Child Be a Citizen?”

What stands out isn’t just the subject matter, it’s the language. The phrase “unborn child” carries emotional weight. It acknowledges humanity. Now imagine if the article had used the word “fetus” instead.

“Will My Fetus Be a Citizen?”

It wouldn’t have resonated the same way.

This choice of words reveals something important: when the goal is to connect with the reader’s heart, even major outlets instinctively use humanizing language. And that matters, because the child in the womb doesn’t change based on the headline. As Megan Almon, a speaker specializing in pro-life apologetics and a friend of Save the Storks, states, the value of a human being is not dependent on where they are, but on what they are. A baby does not gain value by passing through the birth canal. They are still a child, still worthy of protection and love. We hope that outlets like The New York Times would speak consistently and honestly about the humanity of a preborn child.

The New York Times – Embryonic Pulsing

In 2019, while reporting on Louisiana’s Heartbeat Bill, The New York Times referred to the baby’s heartbeat as “embryonic pulsing”. Again, using clinical language, to separate the humanity of a preborn baby from the human term, which would be, simply put, the baby’s heartbeat.

Alan Blinder writes in the article, “The measure would require an ultrasound test for any woman seeking to terminate a pregnancy, and forbid abortion if the test detects embryonic pulsing, which can occur before many women know they are pregnant.”

It’s true. The preborn baby’s heart begins to beat as early as six weeks after conception. So why choose the phrase “embryonic pulsing” instead of simply “heartbeat,” which is more transparent and more relatable? Unfortunately, this choice seems deliberate.

The New York Times – Wordle Scandal

Even the word “fetus” became controversial in 2022, when The New York Times faced criticism for including it in their Wordle game around the time Roe v. Wade was at risk of being overturned. They chose to remove the word to avoid any appearance of taking a political stance during a sensitive moment. It’s telling that even a medical term like “fetus” was seen as too charged to be used openly in a word game.

The Power of Framing

Someone who supports choice would never comfort a grieving friend by referring to their lost baby as “a clump of cells.” You won’t find sympathy cards that say, “Sorry for the loss of your fetus.” While major news outlets continue to use the word “fetus”, the reality is simple: a baby is a baby, no matter how small. And while words can shape perception, truth remains constant.

While some call it a fetus or a clump of cells, we’ll keep calling it what it is: a baby. A human being. Someone deserving of value, love, and LIFE.

Put Her Future First

When a woman first sees her baby on an ultrasound in our mobile medical clinics, it says what words can’t. This is life, a baby deserving of love and protection. 3 out of 4 women who board a Save the Storks Mobile Medical Clinic choose life. “Patti” came to Options [Pregnancy Clinic] seeking confirmation of her pregnancy through a pregnancy test. She expressed disbelief at the possibility of being pregnant: “I can’t be pregnant because I don’t feel pregnant at all.” She had not experienced any significant symptoms or noticeable changes. But the test did come back positive, confirming her pregnancy.

Patti opened up about her personal circumstances, sharing that her relationship with the baby’s father was unstable. She wasn’t sure she saw a future with him. She didn’t think he would be supportive during her pregnancy or in raising a child.

Patti Faced Several Fears and Uncertainties

In addition to her uncertainty about the relationship, Patti shared her concerns about finances; there was no way she could afford to care for a baby at this time. The thought of raising a child alone left her feeling overwhelmed and scared. These fears, combined with her uncertainty about her circumstances, contributed to her deep sense of fear over her pregnancy.

Throughout the consultation, Patti felt very emotional and anxious. The clinic tried to provide a calm and supportive environment, giving her space to express her feelings, and reassuring her she wasn’t alone. They offered detailed information about the next steps, including available resources and support options. They told her to take the time she needed to process her emotions and make an informed decision.

When Patti was shown the fetal models, she started to cry. She was amazed by how quickly development happens. Despite her emotional state, Patti expressed appreciation for the guidance and compassion she received during the consultation. Options assured her they would be there to support her every step of the way. Despite her fears and feeling unprepared, she shared that her family would support her if she chose to continue the pregnancy. This provided her with a small sense of hope.

Patti Began to See the Possibility of Parenthood

At this point, the clinic noticed a shift in how she was feeling. Patti began to see the possibility of being a mother. However, she remained undecided about her next steps, voicing her fears of miscarriage, complications, or the challenges of raising a baby alone. Options reassured Patti that they would remain a consistent source of care and encouragement. They offered follow-up support and resources to help her navigate this difficult journey.

It wasn’t until the follow-up call that Patti said she decided to keep her baby. She explained that the baby’s father had surprised her with his reaction to the news. Instead of the response she had feared, he was excited about the possibility of becoming a father and expressed a strong desire to raise the baby together with her. While they hadn’t shared the news of her pregnancy with her family yet, they planned to wait until the end of her first trimester.

Mother’s Day is a testament to the beauty of mothers and what they bring to our lives.

When I was growing up, Mother’s Day was always a big deal in our house. It was a time to take a moment and thank my mom for all she did for us throughout the year. We served her breakfast in bed while we opened cards and homemade gifts. Now that I am a mother, I appreciate the sacrifices my mom made to support me, beginning when I was born, and continuing into my adult years. My first Mother’s Day as a mom was a special one. My mom sent me a gift to mark the occasion, which I cherish every time I see it in my daughter’s room. But every Mother’s Day since that first one has been special, too – and I know every future Mother’s Day will bring with it new memories on which to reflect.

No matter the age of her children, a mother can be a steady hand and a voice of comfort and truth in difficult times. To be a mother is a fantastic responsibility and an honor. Anyone who takes on the role of a mother should be celebrated on Mother’s Day.

Motherhood Comes in Many Forms

I hope that Mother’s Day is a day that excites women, whether or not they have children. For those who have miscarried, it is still a day for them. They have carried their children and are mothers. It is a day for aspiring mothers to celebrate the mothers in their lives — whether their mother or their friends. Watching a friend become a mother is fantastic and something we can all appreciate before we have children. Even if a woman has embryos waiting to implant through in vitro fertilization, she is a mother, and those are her children. If she has tragically lost a child, she is a mother.

If someone takes on the role of a mother, as an adoptive parent or a stepparent, they should be celebrated, as well. This day also belongs to birth mothers who put their children up for adoption. While it is a difficult decision for those mothers, I hope they know they deserve celebration on this special day for choosing life for their children and selflessly entrusting them to the care of another loving family.

The Journey of Motherhood

I think Mother’s Day should not only be a day when we celebrate mothers but also when we acknowledge the importance and joy of motherhood, along with the lessons and challenges it brings. Motherhood is a journey, one which we will never finish. In my few years of motherhood, I have learned that as my children grow, I also grow. As a young mom, I often make the mistake of thinking my children will stay the same age forever, but they change every day. In all seasons of their lives, I follow along with appreciation that I get to be their mom.

A Day to Celebrate, Even Through Grief

Mother’s Day can be difficult for those who desire to get pregnant or who are missing their mothers who have passed away. I hope that for those who have lost a mother, this day is an even deeper celebration for them. I hope they take time to remember the beautiful moments and lessons that their mothers passed on. The fact that we miss those who have passed away is a testament to the presence they were – and still are – for us.

Honoring Every Mother

Motherhood is a beautiful challenge, but it has been undervalued recently. If any woman is willing to take on the vital role of being a mother to someone, her work should be seen and celebrated. The choice to become a mother is a selfless and beautiful, and all those who do so should be acknowledged on this special day.

“There’s no way this is real,” Grace* thought as she stared at her positive pregnancy test (*Name changed for privacy).

She had just suffered a miscarriage, and now, just weeks later, she was pregnant again. Confused, angry, and overwhelmed, Grace felt she had no other option.

“I felt abortion was the easiest way out,” she recalls.

Grace scheduled the abortion in Colorado to coincide with a work trip. But the night before Grace left, she had a dream. In the dream, she held a baby girl, reaching for her and saying Mama. The next day, she woke up and drove to Colorado, still intending to get the abortion pills.

Asking God for a Sign

Grace was raised in a Catholic household, so she recalled the prayer Novena to St. Thérèse of Lisieux, also known as The Little Flower. This prayer is asking for confirmation from God through seeing a rose. During her journey to the abortion clinic, Grace prayed this prayer.

Hours later, Grace arrived at the clinic.

Grace couldn’t afford the pills, but the abortion clinic covered the cost. She was instructed to take the first pill immediately. Then she had until noon the next day to take the remaining four, which would complete the abortion process.

But as she walked out of the clinic, life-affirming advocates stood outside. One of them handed her a rose.

“I just knew right there, okay, we’re not doing this,” says Grace.

Seeking Abortion Pill Reversal

Now the clock was ticking. Grace had 24 hours to decide what to do before it was too late.

Grace planned to attend a Christian event with a friend the next day. The event was meant for spiritual healing, and in a moment of vulnerability, she shared the truth with her friend Sophie* (*Name changed for privacy).

“I had this conviction in my heart to tell her I took the first abortion pill, I regretted it, and was there anything we could do?” says Grace.

Sophie happened to be our Save the Storks Community Mobilizer. She called our CEO, Diane Ferraro, for help. Diane was sitting at her computer on a Saturday afternoon when she got the call. On the other line, Sophie explained the situation: “I’m here with a beautiful young lady, and she took the abortion pill, and she changed her mind,” she said.

Diane immediately sprang into action to assist this worried mom. Because of Save the Storks’ connections, Diane contacted Jor-El Godsey, President of Heartbeat International, who found a doctor to prescribe Grace progesterone that night. Grace picked up the abortion pill reversal at Walgreens the next morning and took it.

Does Abortion Pill Reversal Work?

Now, all they could do was wait. It had been more than 24 hours since Grace had taken the first abortion pill. The clock had run out, but hope hadn’t.

According to studies, the success rate for Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) using progesterone is between 64% and 68%. Grace went in for her follow-up, not knowing the outcome. Everyone who had helped her was praying, hoping for a miracle.

Then Diane’s phone rang again. It was Sophie.

“I was so nervous when I picked up,” Diane recalled. “But then Sophie said Grace wanted to speak to me herself.” She handed Grace the phone.

“Diane… I’m a mom,” Grace said.

Tears and laughter filled the call as Diane, Sophie, and Grace celebrated the incredible news together.

“I ended up finding out it’s a little girl,” Grace added, laughing. “She’s healthy, moving, active, and already keeping me up all night.”

There’s Still More to Come for Grace

While Grace is relieved her little girl is okay, she knows there’s a long road ahead for her. Her work is unstable, her living situation is uncertain, and the baby’s father struggles with addiction and doesn’t know Christ, still, she bravely chose life.

“I don’t have a motherly bone in my body, I’ve never wanted kids,” Grace admits, “But I know I’m supposed to have her. Whatever God’s purpose is, I’m supposed to become a mom.”

Grace is being connected with resources to help her throughout her pregnancy and motherhood journey. She bravely shares her story, hoping it will inspire other women to make the hard decision and choose life despite circumstances. Grace herself has faced the pain of abortion in the past.

Grace’s Past Abortion

“I had an abortion when I was 16 years old. It was a surgical abortion. That’s something I’ve carried every single day. It’s not something that goes away at all. I wake up knowing daily that if I didn’t do that, I would have a little girl or boy in my life,” says Grace.

She shares her story in hopes that one woman will read it and choose not to go through with the abortion. To women who may have taken the abortion pill and regret it, she says:

“I want people to know that there are other options. There are resources and people you can call,” says Grace.

Put Her Future First

At Save the Storks, we believe every woman deserves compassionate, life-affirming medical care that honors her future, not harms it. Healthcare should always be about putting her well-being first, ensuring she receives the care she needs, and the truth about her options.

Because of our National Partner Program and Community Partnerships, Save the Storks had the connections and resources to support Grace when she needed it most. But we can’t do this alone.

Give today or become a monthly donor to support programs that give women real options and compassionate care when they need it most. Please continue praying for Grace and her baby, who is due in November.

Colorado Springs, CO. – There is no denying that every mom is a superhero. This Mother’s Day, the non-profit organization Save the Storks is honoring birth moms, adoptive moms and foster moms who help shape future generations. An interview with Ahna Cameron Bower, the daughter of Chelsea Noble Cameron and Kirk Cameron, shares the superhero power of the woman who adopted her, and how the famous actress and mother of six was also adopted.

Ahna’s story, featured in this Save the Storks Mother’s Day blog post states that “in most superhero stories, the stakes are high. The hero is faced with a decision that could save lives, or ripple through future generations. What many people don’t realize is that birth moms and adoptive moms carry that same power. One brave choice – to choose life, to choose adoption – can create a legacy that stretches far beyond one moment.”

One of the most poignant parts of the Mother’s Day blog post is this comment: “Thank you is the smallest form of gratitude. Those words hold weight with me. You have no idea what you could do with just that one sacrifice,” says Ahna to her birth mother and other birth mothers out there.

“Thank you for choosing to give your twenty-four-seven love and care for nine months to an unknown person and then giving them their life,” she
adds.

The incredible opportunity to serve at Save the Storks is not lost on its CEO, Diane Ferraro. Diane was adopted and has also been a foster mom and an adoptive mom to a teenager who was in the foster care system.

Diane stated, “Adoption is the most beautiful gift anyone can receive, and to my birth mom and all the birth mothers who have chosen adoption for their children, thank you.” She added, “I will also be forever grateful to my adoptive mother. As Ahna mentioned in the interview, adoptive moms are so selfless, sacrificial and offer unconditional love to their children. My own motherhood journey included being a foster mom as well as a volunteer for many years with a foster family agency. It is important that we recognize the thousands of foster mothers across the United States who are helping to parent children and teenagers when their biological moms are unable to do so. You are all superheroes and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for being brave and fearless.”

Mother’s Day is on May 11th, 2025 in the United States. The prior day, May 10th, is Birth Mother’s Day, and was established in 1990 by a group of birth moms.

Save the Storks is honoring all moms with a unique letter-writing campaign that will be shared on their social media platforms starting May 1, 2025.

A new report from the Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC) reveals the abortion pill is far more dangerous than many women are led to believe. The study, which analyzed insurance data from over 865,000 mifepristone abortions between 2017 and 2023, found that 1 in 10 women experienced serious adverse events, including sepsis, hemorrhaging, infection, hospitalization, and emergency room visits, within just 45 days of taking the abortion pill.

All of this from a drug the FDA famously claims is “safe and effective” for women.

The Truth About the Abortion Pill

Since the FDA began an aggressive push of abortion pills, our National Medical Director, Dr. Karysse Hutson, has spoken about the serious dangers of approving the abortion pill and removing safeguards for women.

@savethestorks

New research reveals a 10.93% rate of severe complications from the abortion pill, challenging claims of its safety. With over 865,000 prescriptions studied, it’s clear that abortion isn’t as risk-free as we’re told. As a physician, I urge everyone to question the narrative and learn the full truth about these dangers. In April 2021, the FDA made a temporary allowance for abortion pills to be prescribed via telehealth and delivered by mail without an in-person visit. This policy was made permanent in December 2021 based on claims that it was safe. But real-world data now shows the rate of serious adverse events is at least 22 times higher than what clinical trials reported.

“When an organization like the FDA or ACOG says things are safe, that’s not always the case,” adds Dr. Hutson, “OBGYNs like myself know this to be true because we’re treating those tens of thousands of patients coming into the ER with complications related to the abortion pill.”

Dr. Hutson continues to lead with courage and conviction, championing women’s health above politics and ensuring that women’s safety and dignity remain top priorities.

Women Deserve Better

At Save the Storks, we believe women deserve better. We’re working toward a future where every woman has access to truly dignified, excellent healthcare. Healthcare that prioritizes her physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Our National Medical Advisory Board is working to elevate women’s healthcare nationwide and ensure tragedies like these don’t continue.

Women are not statistics. They are daughters, mothers, sisters, and friends. And they deserve to be told the truth.

It’s time to stop putting the abortion industry’s agenda ahead of women’s lives. It’s time to put her future first.

Please stand with us to put Her Future First, because true empowerment starts with protecting her health.

When you think of a superhero, you might imagine Superman, Batman, or even one of the many Avengers movies. You might think of someone in a cape flying around and saving lives, but the truth is, one of the most overlooked superheroes in our lives are moms. While all moms are superheroes, there’s something incredibly special about the superhero moms who adopt or choose to place their baby for adoption.

For Ahna, her mom is a superhero who changed her life and her whole family for the better.

Ahna’s Superhero Mom

A superhero proves their character through their actions. For having courage, bravery, and making selfless decisions to save the people they love. So, it’s not a far reach to call your mom a superhero. This is how Ahna sees her mother, Chelsea Noble.

“My mom is my superhero. Every single person in my family would say that my mom is their superhero, because she has worked so hard and sacrificed every cell in her body for the entire duration of all our lives to be a selfless mom who didn’t treat us any differently, ” says Ahna.

Ahna’s gratitude doesn’t stop with the woman who raised her — it stretches back to another brave mom: the one who chose life for her mom. That woman had no idea she was giving life to the future superhero Ahna would one day call “Mom.” Because Ahna’s adopted mom? She was adopted, too.

The Choice That Built a Family

In the 1960s, when adoption carried heavy stigma, Ahna’s mom, Chelsea Noble, was placed into a loving Italian family in New York. Her birth mom’s brave decision set off a chain reaction. Years later, that little girl would grow up, get married, and adopt four children of her own—including Ahna.

“She chose life for my mom, and then my mom ended up meeting my dad. And they decided, you know what? Let’s adopt. And then they adopted four other people whom other moms had given life to. Because of one woman, there were six more kids, ” Ahna adds.

Ahna, her parents Kirk Cameron and Chelsea Noble, and her family.

Ahna’s family is comprised of four adopted children and two biological children, but it’s a family filled with so much belonging that they often forget they’re adopted.

“It’s strange. We oftentimes forget that we are adopted. And we’re black,” Ahna added with a laugh, “So it’s kind of like, how do you forget? But it’s because she set the tone that we’re all adopted by God first.”

How One Brave Choice Shapes Generations

In most superhero stories, the stakes are high. The hero is faced with a decision that could save lives, shift the future, or ripple through generations. What many people don’t realize is that birth moms and adoptive moms carry that same power. One brave choice—to choose life, to choose adoption—can create a legacy of love that stretches far beyond one moment.

Ahna and her mother, Chelsea Noble.

Ahna’s story is proof of this ripple effect. Her adoptive mom has a unique story because she was adopted decades earlier. That shared experience bonded her to her children in a powerful way, shaping how she parented with empathy, honesty, and strength. Ahna’s gratitude stretches to her siblings’ birth moms as well. Without the choices these women made for their lives, she wouldn’t have the family she cherishes today.

One brave decision, a whole legacy transformed. Ahna’s family was born out of the courage of women who may never know the impact they made, but changed the world just the same. What’s more heroic than that?

The Power of Her Choice…

Ahna’s adoption was closed, so she hasn’t had the chance to thank her mom personally, but she cannot express how thankful she is for her sacrifice.

“Thank you is the smallest form of gratitude. Those words hold weight with me. You have no idea what you could do with just that one sacrifice,” says Ahna to her birth mother and other birth mothers out there. “Thank you for choosing to give your twenty-four-seven love and care for nine months to an unknown person and then giving them their life,” she adds.

This reality isn’t missed by Ahna, as a new mom herself, she sees the incredible sacrifice her birth mother gave her, and the life that she’s had because of it.

“My birth mother gave me my entire life. I have a husband now. I have a child now. She gave me my life,” Ahna recounts.

Ahna’s Message to Other Superhero Moms

A superhero is proud of their family. Ahna’s mom was always open about the adoption conversation, involving each kid and sharing a special connection with them since she was also adopted. Ahna suggests that other adoptive parents do the same.

“I would encourage that person to have an open conversation early. If you’re going to adopt, don’t hesitate to talk about it, keeping it out in the open. Because that is one of the biggest gifts my parents gave me,” says Ahna.

Her message to future moms considering adoption is simple: You can do this.

“You can do this. You are fully equipped with everything you need to do it. God will get you through. There’s going to be challenging days of wondering, but put your trust in the Lord, and he will protect you and protect your future child, ” Ahna adds.

You Are a Superhero

We want all moms to know they are real superheroes. Having a child, choosing to place your baby in a forever home, and choosing to adopt all takes incredible courage. But like all superheroes, it’s this one brave choice that can change an entire generation, build a legacy, and create a family.

As Ahna reflects on the birth mothers whose choices helped shape her family, she says, “They had no idea the dramatic effect their sacrifice would have.”

So to every mom — birth mom, adoptive mom, or someone considering either path — know this:

You are a real superhero.

And your one brave choice might change the world.

Be Her Superhero!

Every superhero needs someone in their corner. Will you be hers? Your support could be the encouragement she needs to choose life.

Give today or become a monthly donor and be part of a choice that changes generations.
